Progressive Poetry and Prose Tour
Progressive Poetry and Prose Tour
WEDNESDAY, JULY 27, 2022 FROM 6PM – 9PM
Join The ARTS Council for a special poetry and prose tour of two historic sites in Elmira, NY.
After meeting at the Chemung County Historical Society at 6PM, we will travel together on a mini bus to Quarry Farm, the Summer residence of Mark Twain, where he wrote many of his most famous stories. Once at Quarry Farm, we will get a quick tour of the property from Dr. Joseph Lemak, Director for the Center of Mark Twain Studies at Elmira College, and then gather on the beautiful porch overlooking the Chemung River Valley for some inspired writing.
Poet, Michael Czarnecki and prose writer, Lafayette Wattles will be facilitating the inspired writing portions of the evening. Choose whether you'd like to write poetry or prose and feel free to switch it up throughout the event.Following the time spent at Quarry Farm, we will board the bus and head back to the Chemung County Historical Society where archivist, Rachel Dworkin, will give us a behind-the-scenes tour of the museum and show us some of the special holdings in the museum's archival collection. We will then be allowed to wander the galleries in search of writing inspiration. Michael and Lafayette will work with attendees in the galleries, each leading with their own creative energy.
While this event is free and open to the public, pre-registration is required, as we only have a limited number of seats on the bus. Register NOW at https://bit.ly/ProgressivePoetryProse
