Progressive Poetry and Prose Tour
Progressive Poetry & Prose Tour
Presented by The ARTS Council and Facilitated by Michael Czarnecki and Lafayette Wattles
Thursday, August 17, 5:30-8:30pmJoin The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes for a special Progressive Poetry and Prose Tour of two historic sites in Elmira, NY on Thursday, August 17 from 5:30-8:30pm.
We will meet at the Chemung County Historical Society at 5:30pm and travel together on a minibus to Quarry Farm, the Summer residence of Mark Twain, where he wrote many of his most famous stories. Once at Quarry Farm, we will get a quick tour of the property from Steve Webb, Facilities Manager, and then gather on the beautiful porch overlooking the Chemung River Valley for some inspired writing.
Poet, Michael Czarnecki and prose writer, Lafayette Wattles will be facilitating the inspired writing portions of the evening. Choose whether you'd like to write poetry or prose and feel free to switch it up throughout the event.
Following the time spent at Quarry Farm, we will board the bus and head to Elmira College where Dr. Joseph Lemak, Director of the Center for Mark Twain Studies, will give us a brief tour of the famous octagonal study Mark Twain wrote in when he was visiting Quarry Farm. We will then be allowed to wander the grounds of the college and see the statues of Mark Twain and his wife and Elmira College alum, Olivia Langdon in search of writing inspiration. Michael and Lafayette will work with attendees on the grounds of the college, each leading with their own creative energy. We will return to the Historical Society around 8:30pm to conclude our evening.
This event has a registration fee of $10. There are only 20 seats available on the bus so claim your seat soon!
