Close to Home: Original Paintings by Bob Ievers - Exhibition
The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes is pleased to announce Bob Ievers' Close to Home, a new exhibition at First Heritage Federal Credit Union at their Corning, NY branch at 23 W Market St, Suite 102!
On view during regular business hours from January 24 - March 20, the opening reception will be on Friday, January 31, 2020 from 5:00 - 8:00pm during the Urban Arts Crawl, an arts experience occurring throughout Corning on the final Friday of every month. An artist talk will begin at 7:00pm.
While I was born and raised in New York City, I've lived in the Southern Tier for more than forty years. I began painting when I was in my twenties, but a wife, family and a career came along and the paints and brushes were put away until the kids headed to college. I've always been drawn to landscape painting and I find plein air painting particularly rewarding.
We live in a beautiful part of the world. Because we see it every day, that beauty becomes commonplace and therefore, at times, invisible. We may pass a scene a thousand times, but on a given day, the light is just right or the weather conditions are unusual or we’ve never taken notice at this particular time of year, and suddenly we are stunned by the magnificence of the landscape. That’s what I look to capture – a scene that may be familiar but, because it’s at a unique moment in time, we’re actually seeing it for the first time. For a landscape painter, it's hard to imagine a better place to live.
Close to Home celebrates the beauty of the Southern Tier and the Finger Lakes region. My hope is that the majority of people that see the exhibit will be able to say, "I know where that is."
