Beethoven and Suicide Prevention
In preparation for Saturday’s concert, Toshiyuki Shimada, Conductor and Music Director of the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes, will talk about the music on the program. Most notably, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2 was written when he came to terms with his hearing loss and suicidal thoughts. He overcame his suicidal thoughts and went on to write some of the greatest masterpieces in classical music.
This will be followed by "Talk Saves Lives: An Introduction to Suicide Prevention" presented by Tiffany Bloss, Executive Director of Suicide Prevention and Crisis Service.
"Talk Saves Lives" is a standardized education program that provides participants with a clear understanding of suicide as a leading cause of death, including the most up-to-date research on suicide prevention, and what they can do in their communities to save lives. Participants will learn common risk factors and warning signs associated with suicide, and how to keep themselves and others safe.
Live streaming is available.
